What was a forgone conclusion, the Houston Rockets will sign free agent forward Carmelo Anthony to a one-year deal worth $2.4 million.
The off-season rollercoaster ride for Anthony has finally come to an end. He agreed to the player option deal of his contract to stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder, way over the salary cap and luxury tax, decided to buy out Melo's contract, which would save the organization $100 million dollars.
Oklahoma City found a trade partner in the Atlanta Hawks and dealt Anthony for point guard Dennis Schroder. The Hawks in turn bought out Melo's contract, making him a free agent.
Don't feel sorry for Melo. He'll still get the $28 million owed in his original deal, plus the $2.4 million from the Rockets.
