ABOUT SHAKI
I was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Corporate Communications from Central Penn College in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
I live in the Houston, Texas area with my wife, Lea, of five years. We have two beautiful children; a daughter, Aamiyah, who is 3, and a son, Amari, who is 1.
I have always been passionate about sports. My first sports hero was Julius Erving. He was and continues to be my favorite athlete of all-time. I remember meeting him and other Philadelphia 76ers players during their summer training camps at Franklin and Marshall College. He took time to greet me and gave me his autograph. I haven't been the same since.
Writing about sports has been a huge part of my life since elementary school. I can recall writing articles and giving them to my teacher. That passion progressed into high school when I took a journalism class my sophomore year. My teacher, Mr. Dennis Schmid, helped to turn a flicker into a flame. With his influence, I began writing for our school's newspaper and the passion continued to grow.
My influences include the late, great Ralph Wiley, Michael Wilbon, Stephen A. Smith and Christine Brennan.
