The Philadelphia Eagles cut running back Ryan Matthews today, which was a surprise to no one.

Matthews was a 12th overall pick in the 2010 draft by the San Diego Chargers. He spent his first five seasons with the Bolts, before bolting to Philadelphia in 2015.

Matthews was a part of a huge Eagles free agent signing period, which him paired with DeMarco Murray.

Unfortunately, Matthews was never able to shake the injury bug. 2013 was his only injury-free season and he rushed for over 1200 yards.

Matthews ability to catch out of the backfield made him an aasett around the league; his injury problems made him a liability. Despite passing a physical from a neck injury suffered last season, the Eagles released him in part because of another free agent acquisition, Legarrette Blount.
