NHL Playoff Match-Ups are Set

The last playoff spots were finally decided and the match-ups are set for what could be an exciting NHL postseason.

Number one overall seed the Washington Capitals, led by their superstar Alex Ovechkin, will take on the Philadelphia Flyers, who not only caught fire towards the end of the regular season, but will be playing with added emotion as their founder and chairman Ed Snider died Monday.

The Capitals are this year's winners of the President's Trophy, given to the team with the best overall record. That distinction hasn't bode well as far as winning the Cup. Since 1985-86, the first year the trophy was presented, only eight teams have it all. The Capitals hope to be the ninth. Meanwhile the defending champions, the Chicago Blackhawks are seeking to win their fourth Stanley Cup in seven years. Here is the first round match-ups for each conference:

Eastern Conference Western Conference:

Flyers vs. Capitals Stars vs. Wild

Panthers vs. Islanders Blues vs. Blackhawks

Lightning vs. Red Wings Ducks vs. Predators

Penguins vs. Rangers Kings vs. Sharks
