The Philadelphia 76ers will have a new general manager and head of basketball operations. Sam Hinkie stepped down after holding those titles for the last three years. Hinkie, known more for his "trust the process" quote than for putting together a successful team, will not be around to see how the process turns out.
The Sixers have been the worst team in the NBA since Hinkie became the general manager. Their tenth win last night over the New Orleans Pelicans ensured them of not having the worst record in NBA history, a distinction held by the 1972-73 Sixers who finished an abysmal 9-73.
Bryan Colangelo, son of Special Adviser Jerry Colangelo, will take over as the team's general manager. The Sixers are assured of at least a top three pick in this coming NBA Draft, and possibly another first round pick.
