FanFest a Huge Success

The saying goes, "everything is bigger in Texas." Houston lived up to that motto when the city starred as a fabulous host to the 2016 NCAA Final Four. The Final Four didn't just feed the appetite of the basketball junkie. Some of the world's most popular entertainers literally took center stage in the city's Discovery Green.
Aloe Blacc, Flo-Rida, Pitbull and Maroon 5 kept the 50,000 in attendance in party mode all day long. If the live performances didn't satisfy (and I can't imagine why it wouldn't), the George R. Brown Convention Center was the centerpiece of a variety of activities that catered to the sports lover in everyone.
From shooting hoops, to autograph sessions with legends such as Dominique Wilkins, Oscar Robertson and Ralph Sampson, Fan Fest gave the people their chance to have not just "One Shining Moment," but many shining moments.
As a fan, I had the pleasure of meeting and greeting these legends. As a journalist, I had the opportunity to grasp for the first time what a big time sporting event is like. As if that weren't enough, I had the honor, privilege and pleasure of meeting and greeting NBA on TNT sideline reporter Craig Sager. As usual Sager was gracious and didn't waste time to shake a fan's hand and pose for a picture; a moment I will treasure forever. FanFest was one of the proudest and most enjoyable experiences of my life. If this was the dress rehearsal for Super Bowl LI, Houston is more than ready.
