Baseball Broadcaster Joe Garagiola Dies at 90

The sports world lost another legend Wednesday when Baseball Hall of Famer Joe Garagiola, Sr. passed away at the age of 90. Garagiola was the voice of Major League Baseball doing their "Game of the Week" and called many World Series games during his 57-year career as a broadcaster.

In 1991, Garagiola was honored with the Ford C. Frick Award by National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum for his contributions to baseball as a broadcaster. He was also presented with the Buck O'Neil Foundation Award. Garagiola served as co-host of the Today Show on two separate stints.

One of his greatest acts was serving as spokesperson for ending smokeless tobacco in baseball. Garagiola was a huge part of my early childhood. The bigger the game, it was his voice that was sure to call the game.
